P1558, Replaced Electronic Throttle Control Motor
Complaint
The customer states that the check engine light is on.
Cause
Connected a scan tool and found code P1558 -Throttle Actuator (G186) – Electrical Malfunction. At idle, used a multi-meter to check for the presence of voltage and ground at the electronic throttle valve and found both were present. Used the scan tool to monitor live data and found that the electronic throttle valve parameter was not within specifications. Used a set of fused jumper wires to repeatedly apply voltage and ground to the electronic throttle valve, and found the valve was inoperative. Performed a visual inspection of the electronic throttle valve and found no obvious faults. These test results verified that the electronic throttle control motor was faulty.
